I am doing research on the origins of my sir name and I’m hoping one of you can help. My name is Chynoweth. It is a very uncommon name here in the USA when I come across a stranger with the name it always turns out that we are related. However some of my more distant relitives pronounce it quite differently. Another uncommon name I’ve seen a couple of times is Chenoweth and they were not related. From what I’ve been able to gather so far my name is surely Cornish/Celtic. It seems that the other spelling with an E replacing the Y is of Welsh/Celtic origins. The meaning Chy= House noweth= new. Am I correct in my conclusions? Can anyone give me more info on that name? Most of all can any one help with the pronunciation.
